I almost got the job

Although, nothing outstanding had happened since I'm back to the field of job-searching, I wanted to share a little update on how everything is has been going since I was let go from my last job. (Arrggg...I hate to say it. It sounds so soul-crushing; "let go". It makes me feel like a worthless piece of shit. But any other expression wouldn't be true.)

Anyway...So after Christmas and NYE, I went back to my hometown to see family for a little while and I gave myself the holidays off and those few days home to not worry about job, the future or anything and just enjoy a little time that I got for myself. When I got back on the 9th of January, I was back renewed and ready to make the next step in my life.

I know in the last blog I'm stating that I want to start freelancing, but after analysing my experience and knowledge within the field, I realised I'm still fairly new to corporate design, and I should be a bit more skilled by learning and observing as much as I can in a working environment, before I jump into full independency. And who knows, if I get to be with the right team, getting the right assignments, it might turn out to be a wonderful experience. I was just hurt, and scared to depend on another employer that can just get rid of me whenever they feel like they don't need me anymore.

So I got back, started applying and I got an interview with a digital design agency within the health sector. They were looking for a UX designer. (Someone who's designing the structure of websites, web-tools and applications). It was a two staged interview process. The first time, they want to get to know you, and the second time they want to have a short insight of how you solve problems by giving you an assignment that you have to do. So I went to have a chat about who I am, and what I do and I got really positive feedback. They liked me and wanted me to go for the second round. When I got there, the guy who was interviewing me, gave me a box of legos and asked me to design my portfolio website for three different interfaces (browser, iPad and mobile). I found the challenge really creative and literally "outside-the-box". Haha

I had half an hour to complete the task and then I had to explain what my design meant. I felt like it was going pretty well and I did get a positive feedback after. They really liked me and seemed like they found the one they were looking for. The last thing I had to wait for was for the guy in charge of the interview to put my application in front of the board of management to get me approved and I was going to be on board. "Great!" - I thought. I got the job!

BUT! Here comes the but part. When the guy spoke to the management, apparently they just looked at their financial state and had their prediction for this year and they couldn't afford to have someone new on board, so the vacancy got withdrawn.

Great! That's my luck. Now I'm more than two weeks behind, because I stopped looking for jobs while this was going on. I know it's not an excuse. It was stupid of me. Although it seemed like I had it, I shouldn't have taken it for granted until I signed the contract.

Now I'm back to looking....
